Dr. James Truong BSc. ND

Dr. James Truong is a native Calgarian. Born and raised in the NE Calgary, he has always wanted a career in helping people. When growing up, some health concerns had occurred, which affected how he would be able to accomplish tasks. Going through the conventional route including many CT scans, MRI, numerous vials of blood and a specialist, nothing could be done to help deal with his concern. This development led him to explore alternatives for his condition. On a trip to Hong Kong to visit his sister, he met with an alternative medical doctor and with the help of this doctor; his concerns were relieved temporarily as he did not finish his treatments. This experience drove Dr. James to discover naturopathic medicine. He started his naturopathic training in 2005 at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto and graduated in 2009. He did an externship at the National Hospital of Traditional Medicine, a World Health Organization training facility in Hanoi, Vietnam. In his final year at the Naturopathic school, he received the Community Service Award for bringing joy, happiness, hope and laughter to his fellow classmates during the school years.

Dr. James has been practicing Naturopathic medicine since 2009 at the Alberta Health Institute and he still loves what he does. His approach to solving problems is unconventional and out of the box. He tries to think of a way, that may seem out of the norm but that is what makes it effective. His practice is a general family practice dealing with pain, chronic infections, digestive health concerns, hormone imbalances, however he has been expanding to cancers and auto-immune disorders.  He is a strong believer of the philosophy of Naturopathic medicine: first do no harm, finding and treating the root cause, using the healing power of nature, treating the whole person, doctor as teacher, and prevention. His treatment methods include: acupuncture, herbal, diet and nutritional changes, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, soft tissue manipulation, joint manipulation, IV therapy including nutrient boosts, chelation and oxidative therapies (ozone), reiki and counseling.

At the Alberta Health Institute, Dr James has the privilege and honor to work with other health care practitioners that think alike and work as a team. Their goal is to work together to help their patients to enjoy their life with optimal health and happiness.

Dr. James is a specialist licensed Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine in established multidisciplinary Holistic clinic in Calgary Alberta. He is a graduated from the University of Calgary with Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and completed his doctorate at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine.

Dr. James is a member of the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors and the Alberta Association of Naturopathic Doctors. James was awarded the NSA Community Spirit Award, for his charitable work within the CCNM community. He did an externship at a WHO hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam

Dr. James works to understand each person’s health by finding the root cause of the problem by  providing the best care using most efficient and effective method of treatment, utilizing and combining all the different naturopathic modalities (acupuncture, nutrition, herbal medicine, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, soft tissue, joint manipulation, reiki, facial rejuvenation, ear candling and lymphatic drainage).

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopath, Naturopath Doctor: Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct primary health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. Naturopathic medicine is the art and science of disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention using natural therapies including botanical medicine, clinical

A Naturopathic Doctor is a primary care practitioner that seeks to restore and maintain optimum health in their patients by emphasizing nature’s inherent self-healing process. A Naturopathic Doctor views the individual as an integral whole including the physiological, structural, psychological, social, spiritual, environment and lifestyle factors affecting health. Symptoms of disease are seen as warning signals of improper functioning of the body and unfavorable lifestyle habits. Naturopathic Medicine emphasizes disease as a process rather than disease as an entity. The primary goal is to treat the underlying cause of the disease. This approach has proven successful in treating both chronic and acute conditions. Treatments are chosen based on the individual patient, not based on the generality of symptoms.

Naturopathic doctors can also complement and enhance health care services provided by other health care professionals. They cooperate with other branches of medical science referring patients to other practitioners for diagnosis or treatment when appropriate. Naturopathic Doctors provide patients with a truly integrative form of health care.

In Canada, the naturopathic medical profession’s infrastructure includes accredited educational institutions, professional licensing, national standards of practice, participation in many federal health committee initiatives, and a commitment to state-of-the-art scientific research.
